Director of Music
Our full-time Director of Music, Micah Mehl, is a long-time musician and composer with over 25 years of musical experience. He has played the piano since he was five and has sung since he was eight. Micah attended East Tennessee State University from 2017 - 2019 as a vocal education major. While he was there, he sang in many of the various vocal groups, as well as composed sacred choral music that was premiered by the ETSU chorale. Sadly, his time at ETSU was cut short due to the shutdown caused by COVID-19 in the spring of 2019. Since leaving ETSU, Micah continues to further his musical education. He takes lessons in classical piano technique as well as classical voice. Micah is a lyric tenor and enjoys offering his voice for various musical productions throughout the Tri-cities. Micah arranges and composes many different pieces for the various musical groups at BELC. His vision is to build a music program that is rich in Lutheran hymnody, and traditional classical & baroque music that will last for decades to come. Soli Deo Gloria!
Organ
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is very proud to have a custom built 2 manual Randal Dyer pipe organ. This beautiful instrument is a prominent part of our weekly divine service
Bell Choir
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is blessed to have a dedicated bell choir that love to play to the glory of God and for the beautification of the service. Our bell choir has 3 octaves of bells as well as 3 octaves of chimes. Whether you’ve rung in a bell choir in the past or have never touched a handbell, but have always wanted to learn, we would love to have you join if you are interested. The Handbell choir rehearses from 5:30 to 6:30 on Wednesday evenings. If you are interested in learning more, please talk to our Director of Music Micah Mehl.
Adult Choir
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is also blessed with a dedicated adult choir that love to sing praises to God and beautify our divine service. If you love to glorify God through singing, we would love to have you join us. The Adult choir rehearses from 6:30 to 7:30 on Wednesday evenings. Instrumental Ensemble
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is also blessed with an abundance of instrumentalists who love to come together and use their talents to beautify our divine service and to glorify God. We have a range of instruments from percussion, brass, & piano to woodwinds. If you currently play or have played an instrument in the past, we would love to have you join us. Baroque Blockflöte (Recorder) Ensemble
We are excited to announce that we are starting a new ensemble at Bethlehem Evangelical Church. This summer rehearsals will start for a new Baroqu Blockflöte (recorder) ensemble dedicated to playing music primarily written by J.S. Bach. Children’s Music & One on One Music Lessons
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is blessed to have an abundance of children in its congregation who also love to sing and learn music. The children take part in a group music lesson every 1st and 3rd Sunday during the Sunday-school hour. Our director of Music also offers one on one beginner piano and voice lessons for children in the congregation throughout the week.
